Artist Statement

There is something compelling about the touch of a pencil against paper, where the slightest variance of pressure can influence the line. As with applying paint, chance marks offer new possibilities and lead the imagination to unpredicted places.

I like to wander and leave myself open to experiences, often using photography as a means to hold on to images that might otherwise be lost. From this I try to capture in paint the essence of the moment. I find exciting things in the most pedestrian of places, just for the curiosity of looking. Sometimes, the camera catches surprising glimpses that I wasn’t even aware of.

For it’s transient nature, water features frequently in my work. Beyond the awe of sparkling light, reflections and refraction intrigue me more and I like to study the way surface images distort. Sometimes, in the effort to understand, I sense other dimensions at play that can feel otherworldly

At the end of my endeavours, if I create an image that resonates with others, it fills that gap where I missed saying to someone "Look at that!”
